Water Softener
Hard water contains dissolved minerals—like calcium, magnesium and limestone that produce stains and a scale that clogs fixtures and shortens the life of appliances. Our water softeners can absorb minerals for cleaner, more skin-friendly water that extends the life of washing machines, dishwashers, and water heaters and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. We sell and install softener systems that filter, soften, and clarify your water. Our water softeners are engineered for years of dependable operation. We perform both new installations and repairs on existing equipment.

How does a water softener work?
Water softeners reduce the “hardness” of the water, which can have several benefits for consumers: smaller amounts of soap and detergents (non-synthetic) are necessary for cleaning processes; reduced staining, spotting, scaling; and energy saving in water heating due to less scaling.
A typical water softener softens water by ion exchange, which involves the exchange of the hardness minerals (chiefly calcium and magnesium) for sodium or potassium minerals. The exchange takes place by passing water containing hardness minerals over ion exchange resins in a tank.
As the calcium and magnesium contact the resin in their travel through the tank, they displace sodium or potassium ions. The displaced sodium or potassium ions pass downward through the resin “bed” and out the softener drain; thus, the softener delivers “soft” water.

Hard water causes two problems:
- Dissolved calcium and magnesium precipitate out of hard water as scale, which builds up on the insides of pipes, water heaters, dishwashers, plumbing fixtures, tea kettles, coffee makers and industrial machinery. Scale reduces flow through pipes and is a poor conductor of heat. Eventually, pipes can become completely clogged.
- Hard water reduces soap's ability to lather, whether in the shower, sink, dishwasher or washing machine, and reacts with soap to form a sticky scum.
